Why United Kingdom businesses use Ascend

20% VAT by default, other rates per line

Standard-rated lines get 20% automatically; reduced, zero-rated and exempt lines can be set individually, with the VAT total shown separately.

Automatic payment reminders

Polite reminders go out 3 days before the due date, on the due date, then 3 and 7 days after — and stop the moment the invoice is paid.

Card payments and a client portal

Clients pay by card from the invoice or sign in to a portal to see every invoice, payment and balance in one place.

VAT (20%) handled the United Kingdom way

  • VAT invoice fields: your VAT number, invoice date, supply description and VAT rate per line
  • Sequential invoice numbering with your own prefix
  • Quotes and estimates that convert into invoices
  • Expense and bill tracking with profit-and-loss reporting
  • CSV exports for your accountant or bookkeeping software

Who it's for

  • Sole traders and contractors invoicing day rates
  • Limited companies billing monthly retainers
  • Tradespeople quoting jobs and invoicing on completion
  • Agencies and consultancies with repeat clients

United Kingdom invoicing questions

Does Ascend produce valid UK VAT invoices?

Yes. Invoices show your VAT registration number, a unique sequential number, invoice and supply dates, the VAT rate per line and the total VAT charged.

What if I'm not VAT registered?

Leave VAT off and Ascend issues a plain invoice with no VAT lines and no VAT number — the layout adjusts automatically.

Can I chase late payments automatically?

Yes. Reminder emails are on by default before and after the due date, with the schedule configurable in Settings, and they stop once the invoice is paid.

Can my accountant get the data?

Yes. Export invoices, payments, expenses and profit-and-loss summaries as CSV at any time.
